The Ah Kam family started out in the business world working their plantation, producing taro crops they eventually exported to places like New Zealand and the United States including Hawaii. It was on a business trip to Kona, Hawaii that Stan Ah Kam had an idea for a venture that would incorporate his interest in hospitality and hosting people from around the world. And when two cyclones made taro plantations unyielding, Stan’s dream to enter into the world of tourism was realised.

Built on their parent's property in the capital of Samoa, Apia Central Hotel started business in 1990 with only 10 rooms. Recent refurbishments (including renovations to what was once the family homestead at the rear of the property) has seen the hotel grow to 22 rooms, with full bar services, a gift and grocery shop and Spa & Massage centre within the hotel compound.
